Scott Andrews
President
"Under the guidance of coach Matt Barber, Scott began his involvement with the Curtin Athletics Club in 2006 as a sprinter while attending Aquinas College.
During the early years of his training, Scott commenced a degree in Sports Science, where he discovered a strong alignment between the practical coaching methods applied by Matt Barber and the underlying science of sprinting and strength training. Scott credits this period with shaping his understanding of how biomechanics and physiology can be optimised to enhance maximal velocity and rate of force development across a range of sports.
Scott has since held strength and conditioning coaching roles with the Perth Demons WAFL team, the Aquinas College rowing and athletics programs, and more recently the Chinese National Speed Skating Team. Notably, he coached Gao Tingyu, China’s national 500m record holder, to a personal best performance. Scott highly values his time in China and the insights gained from working alongside national-level coaches.
Scott holds a Master’s degree in Strength and Conditioning and Level 2 accreditation with the Australian Strength and Conditioning Association (ASCA).
Going forward, Scott Andrews will take on the role of President of Curtin University Athletics. He is honoured to accept this position and looks forward to contributing to the continued growth of the club while building on its strong tradition of success."
